Reading Aces Ladies went to Loughborough to their last game before Christmas break. Coach Lyes Sola had a squad of eight, including Helen Dirrig, who joined the club in November.
First set started excellent – girls were putting the opponents under pressure with their strong serve. Teams were well matched resulting long rallies. Neither team managed to secure a significant lead till 21-21 and strong serves from Vicky nr 1, inspired play by the rest of the team allowed Reading Aces to take first set.
In the second set RAVC rushed ahead 5-0 however Loughborough managed to tie to 5-5 and startled RAVC confidence and team from the South couldn’t pick up their momentum. Unforced errors and weaker service allowed Loughborough to fight back and to take second set levelling the game.
Unfortunately RAVC couldn’t find their form of first set, their heads went down and never managed to get back in the game. They lost third set and fourth set with the same score 25-13.
Most valuable player from Reading Aces was Anastasia Antipina, nr 3.
One more training session before Christmas will allow ladies to regroup and regain strengths and confidence to be ready to take on Devon at home on the 13th of January at Kendrick at 12.30. All are welcome!
